Sharks, UNCW Alumni hold baseball benefit for Bryan Britt

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY)– The Wilmington Sharks played an exhibition game Sunday against a squad of UNCW Baseball alumni and some of their coaches at Buck Hardee Field. The event served as a fundraiser for Bryan Britt. He’s a former Seahawk baseball standout who continues to battle multiple sclerosis.

The 5 inning fundraiser was $5 for spectators with proceeds going towards the Britt family to help with Bryan’s medical bills.

The Laney graduate was a former CAA Player-of-the-Year. In fact, Britt still holds the Seahawk school record for home runs after hitting 40 in his three-year career.

Sharks General Manager Andrew Aguilar says it’s the least his organization can do to help out.

“They’re going to have some fun with it. We got some pitchers playing in the outfield and stuff like that,” said Aguilar. “They’re just out here in shorts, b-p (batting practice) tossing, you know it’s a real casual, fun game so lets treat it as that and whatever funds we can raise, we can raise and every little bit helps.”

Britt was unable to make the benefit Sunday because of his condition and the heat. Some members of his family did attend though and they’re certainly appreciative of the players efforts.
