Spots still available to adopt Marines for Thanksgiving

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — For the sixth year, Port City Java is bringing Marines from Camp Lejune to the Port City for a chance to have a home cooked meal this Thanksgiving.

Buses will bring the Marines to Wilmington where families are able to adopt them in pairs to bring home and share their family feast with the people who are helping protect our country. Port City Java CEO Steven Schnitzler said just a simple meal can go a long way in brightening one of these young Marines holiday.

“That’s really a tough thing, I think, to be away from family around the holidays especially, in my mind doing what they’re doing for our country. These young folks are working tremendously hard and we’re asking them to do an almost impossible job,” said Schnitzler.

He said you can still volunteer to be a host, the only requirement is that you live within 15 minutes of New Hanover or Laney High Schools. You can apply by emailing Schnitzler at Steve@portcityjava.com.
