Spring Shred Event at Crescent State Bank

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Crescent State Bank along with WWAY hosted the Spring Shred Event, an identity theft, recycle and fraud protection event. It gave folks a chance to shred any financial and legal documents, receipts, floppy disks, CDs and VHS cassettes for free.

“People pull up and are discarding their stuff, uploading and shredding,” said John Franks, senior vice president of Crescent State Bank. “It’s about a five to ten minute process and even has a viewing camera so that people can watch the shredding being done.”

David Collins is an attorney in Wilmington and says he brought about 15 boxes of legal documents to the event.

“Attorneys have to save legal files for at least six years, sometimes longer in certain cases,” said Collins. “We’ve been having these in storage and they’re now more than six years old so we brought them out here to make sure they’re destroyed to protect the confidentiality of our clients.”

Franks says he estimates that about 1,500 people came out to the event.
