St. Mary Catholic School receives 3D printers from GE

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — GE is helping local students get ahead in the 21st century.

St. Mary Catholic School is one of 400 schools receiving two 3D printers from the company. They will be used in the school’s elective 3D Rendering Class.

Made up of 6th, 7th and 8th graders, the students start creating a project on graph paper before eventually watching it come to life through a 3D printer.

“We’re introducing them to a program that could become a career for them,” principal Joyce Price said. “They have taken to it. And to have them, their eyes wide open when they actually see their design come to fruition, is just awesome.”

The school already has one 3D printer.

The school says the additional printers will take the class to the next level.

Students will started using the new 3D printers in the 2017-2018 school year.
