St. Mary celebrates “Jubilee”

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — It’s called a Jubilee. The celebration is in memory of the Rev. Thomas Frederick Price, the first native North Carolinian to be ordained a diocesan catholic priest. He is recognized today as co-founder of the Catholic Foreign Mission Society of America, better known as the Maryknoll Fathers and Brothers.

During the Jubilee – a groundbreaking for a new garden and labyrinth. So what exactly is that? Father Bob Kus knows. “A walkway. A winding walkway where people come to meditate and to pray,”

The expectation is that this will be a quiet place for prayer in an area of town that’s typically not so quiet downtown Wilmington.

They expect frequent use of the area as well.

“I think it will be used a great deal we have a parish of almost 6000 people and that’s just parishioners and there’s a lot of people who aren’t parishioners that will come for the experience,” Father Kus said.

Above all they hope this new prayer and meditation area will give people a closer relationship with God

There is no completion date set for the labyrinth, however, the hope is to have it complete within two years.
