St. Mary students share bookshelves with Indian orphanage
WILMINGTON -– St. Mary students are being asked to share their shelves. The school is collecting used books, educational CDs and DVDs for the Home of Hope, a Catholic orphanage in India.
The library at the orphanage is bare, and St. Mary students are rummaging through personal bookshelves, garages and attics for everything from Dr. Suess to cookbooks.
It all gets shipped off next week.
Students say it makes them feel good to help students thousands of miles away.
Mary Leighton helped collect books. She said, “I think they would feel very grateful because now that they have more books in their library so they can read more and get a better education.”
Parents and neighbors can donate too. Donations are all tax deductible and the collection runs until Friday.
