Start of Wells Fargo Championship means early rise for many

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The first round of the Wells Fargo Championship teed off before 7 a.m., but getting the course ready started well before that.

The grounds crew at Eagle Point Golf Club was mowing the course wearing head lamps in the dark early this morning.

Many volunteers also arrived before dawn, and by 6 a.m., the crowds started pouring through the gates. If you think that’s early, just imagine when they had to wake up.

“We got up at 3:45 (a.m.) to leave Sunset Beach,” spectator Susanne Gronostajski said. “We arrived here around 6:10 this morning.”

Some might think she’s crazy, but Gronostajski says she’s having the time of her life and is already planning to go to the tournament next year.
