State Board of Elections says no to Brunswick Co. challenge

RALEIGH, NC (WWAY) — Election officials in Raleigh have decided to not have a new election for a seat on the Brunswick County Commission.

Alan Lewis, who came in second in the fourth district race, filed a challenge against the third place finisher, Louie Lewis. Earlier this month, the Brunswick County Board of Elections upheld the challenge, which was an issue about Louie Lewis’ residency in the county. Only 460 votes separated Alan Lewis from the winner of the election, Mike Forte.

At a state board of elections hearing Tuesday afternoon, the state dismissed the protest. This means there will not be a new election and Mike Forte is the winner. Louie Lewis can file an appeal, but there’s no word on whether that will happen.
