State lawmakers talk improving film incentives

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Several state legislators were in town today talking about their plans for 2015 and how they’ll help southeastern North Carolina. With the governor recently unveiling his budget they say they have their sights set on the bottom line and what good if any could come to our area.

At a luncheon with area Realtors today; Rep. Susi Hamilton, State Sen. Michael Lee, and Rep. Chris Millis fielded questions from folks.

Though the topics varied it was clear film incentives were top of mind for everyone not just here but some said in Raleigh as well.

“One of the things I think we are most disappointed with in southeastern North Carolina really relates to the film program,” said Sen. Michael Lee.

“There have to be several options on the table, so that we can succeed somewhere,” said Rep. Susi Hamilton.

Lee and Hamilton have different ideas about what those options should be or could look like but they say the goal of doing more for the film industry is front and center. Could that mean going back to the tax credit that was once in place? They both say that is not likely, but that an improved grant program is a real possibility.
