State of the County video highlights accomplishments of 2017
NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — New Hanover County has unveiled the 2018 State of the County video.
The five minute video reflects on the county’s accomplishments over the past year.
Chairman Woody White narrates the video, where he mentions the county has invested in parks, put library cards in the hands of 20,000 more schoolchildren and touts the first property tax cut in 14 years.
White said the primary drivers of the strategic plan are commitment to education, ensuring public safety and protecting taxpayer’s money.
White talked about the Board of Commissioners funding 3 additional pre-K classrooms in 2017 and how the New Hanover County library launched the CLASS project, which provides access to books and online resources.
White also discussed the opioid crisis and how the county is seeking to hold companies accountable.
GenX has been a huge topic across the Cape Fear and spent month dominating the headlines in our area. It’s also something White mentioned during the State of the County. Ht touched on GenX and what has happened since news broke in June that the unregulated compound was found in the Cape Fear River.
“We know how important the quality of life is to all of us who calls New Hanover County home and also to the tens of thousands who flock here in the summer months,” White said. “We live by the ocean, aren’t we lucky?”
Which is why White then took time to discuss the health of the beaches and why it’s important to commissioners to invest in sand on the beaches.
