State agency hosts emergency training session
CARY — State emergency management professionals are training citizen volunteers to help their families and neighbors when a disaster strikes and first responders haven’t arrived or can’t get to the scene.
The North Carolina Division of Emergency Management plans to teach the volunteers Thursday afternoon during a mock tornado and fire. The training is part of a three-day session that ends Friday at the Cary Fire Department’s training building.
The program aims to teach citizens to be community leaders in the event of a disaster. Coursework includes fire safety, search and rescue, damage assessment and emergency medicine.
