State investigating GlenCare again

The Wilmington assisted living facility in danger of having its license revoked is now under another investigation. GlenCare of Wilmington appealed the state’s decision to suspend admissions and possibly revoke its license claiming it had made improvements to fix the violations revealed by the state investigation, but DSS says GlenCare is under investigation again, and it’s looking into claims that mismedication put a resident in the hospital.

In early February the state issued GlenCare several violations and deficiencies. One of the problems the state found was mismanagement of drugs. On February 24 GlenCare appealed the state’s decision saying it had taken steps to comply with all state requirements. But on February 19 DSS started investigating a new issue related to mismedication at the facility.

DSS received complaints that a resident was mismedicated and wound up in the hospital. DSS expects to complete the investigation by the end of the week. The state has not yet responded to GlenCare’s appeal.

We spoke with the family of the resident who was hospitalized. They confirmed the incident but declined to appear on camera.

It’s worth noting that since our investigation began almost three months ago we’ve spoken with several concerned family members who declined to talk on camera. The families said they were worried their would be repercussions if the staff at GlenCare knew they had come forward. To this point we have only had one family come forward in support of GlenCare.

GlenCare owner Glen Kornegay has not returned our call today for comment.
