State of Columbus County
COLUMBUS COUNTY — Many local counties are dealing with growth. The subject was one of the main topics during Columbus County‘s state of the county address Thursday.
County commissioners also talked about upgrading the school system, since some of the schools are more than 50 years old and weren’t built to accommodate current technology.
Columbus County Commission Chair James Prevatte said, “The county needs half a billion dollars over the next five years for those improvements.”
Officials aren’t sure where the money will come from, but it could come from a variety of sources, including local and state money.
