State stops GlenCare admissions

An update to an investigation into an assisted living facility here in Wilmington we’ve been doing for the last month.

During that time we’ve told you about the problems that persist at GlenCare of Wilmington. Sources tell us that on Friday, the state Department of Health and Human Services told owner Glen Kornegay he could no longer accept new residents, and, more importantly, the state intends to revoke his license.

The move follows an inspection a couple of weeks ago. No word yet on what inspectors found during that visit, but the Department of Social Services says it should be able to pass that information along in the next couple of days and we’ll pass that info along to you. Kornegay has 10 to 20 days to tell the state he’s in compliance.

We tried calling Kornegay this afternoon. He did not answer his cell phone.
