Storm can’t put damper on couples wedding day

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — For some people rain during a wedding is a sign of good luck. But with rain, high speed winds and flooding, some couples were not so lucky when it came to Hurricane Florence.

“Even if no one came to our matrimony. We would be happy with each other,” bride Richelle Fonville said.

She did not expect Hurricane Florence to impact her special day with the man of her dreams.

“My wedding particularly is in North Topsail Beach, they were hit kind of hard with the storm,” Fonville said.

Because of the storm, she and her fiance didn’t have their photographer anymore, the hotel they would use closed down and they lost their ballroom.

“It took about two days to hear back from our event planner down their in North Topsail Beach and they gave us the bad news that our particular ballroom that we were going to use, the window had blew through and flooded the area,” Fonville said.

Despite all of this, she was persistent and got everything taken care of one step at a time. She says it is proof that this wedding is meant to happen.

“I truly believe that we were blessed and that our union is graced by God, so this wedding had to happen and it was in God’s ordained plan,” Fonville said.

With her special day just on the horizon, she is counting down the minutes to when she goes from Ms. Fonville to Mrs. Fields. She says her main hope now is that the water will be calm when she goes on her honeymoon with her fiance on a cruise because she is sick of anything related to a hurricane.
