NAVASSA, NC (WWAY) — Emergency crews responded to two weather-related incidents Friday morning, including a vehicle trapped in downed power lines and a large tree that fell onto a home, according to the Navassa Volunteer Fire Department.

The first call was reported shortly before 8:30 a.m. on Cedar Hill Road. Firefighters arriving on scene found a vehicle tangled in power lines that had fallen into the roadway after vegetation brought the lines down.

According to the fire department, two of the vehicle’s three occupants were able to safely exit the vehicle, while the third remained inside until Duke Energy crews arrived. No injuries were reported.

The Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office closed the roadway while emergency personnel worked the scene. The area remained closed for several hours as Duke Energy completed repairs.

While crews were still responding to the Cedar Hill Road incident, a second call came in around 9 a.m. for a downed tree on Edgehill Drive.

Firefighters found a large tree had fallen onto the rear of a home, causing damage to the structure. No injuries were reported. Emergency crews remained on scene until Brunswick County Building Inspections personnel arrived to assess the damage.

Both incidents were attributed to weather-related conditions. No injuries were reported in either event.
