Strange odor at apartment complex isn’t harmful

Residents evacuated from a Wilmington apartment complex Monday night can now rest easy.

A strange chemical odor was reported coming from The Pines apartment complex on Shipyard Boulevard. When the hazmat team went in to investigate, their air-monitoring equipment got really low readings, meaning there were minimal hazardous materials in the air.

After ventilating the building, the equipment got no readings at all. Hazmat officials believe the odor came from a pest-control bomb or mixture of cleaning products.
