Stray bullets hit woman and son, 2 arrested, 2 wanted


TABOR CITY, NC (WWAY) — A Tabor City man wanted for a variety of crimes throughout Columbus County is one of two men still wanted for a shooting last week that injured three people, including two innocent bystanders.

The shooting happened May 3rd on North Lewis Street around 7:00 p.m., according to Capt. Greg Sibbett with the Tabor City Police Department.

Sibbett says a man on the street was shot twice. About 100 yards away, stray bullets entered a home and struck a 20-year-old in the left leg and his 45-year-old mother in the left hand. All three victims were treated and released from the hospital.

Investigators issued warrants for four men.

Levon Campbell and Daniel Bennett both turned themselves in to police. They are charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, two counts of assault with a deadly weapon serious injury and two counts of discharging a weapon into occupied property. Campbell has two additional assault with a deadly weapon charges.

They are in jail under a $500,000 bond.

Investigators are still searching for Tabor City resident D’Angelo Lewis, 30, (who also goes by Jenrette) and Maecus Mitchell, 40, of Clarendon.

Sibbett says Lewis has multiple warrants for his arrest. Both men should be considered armed and dangerous.
