Stray cats rescued from construction zone in downtown Wilmington

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Organizations partnered to rescue the stray cats being pushed out of their home in downtown Wilmington Thursday. The cats will be getting a new home at the Ruffian Sanctuary.

Wilmington Animal Centrix helped rescue three of the cats Thursday morning. The rescue organization set up traps near the Aloft Hotel construction zone.

They lured the cats in with fried chicken bait.

The cats were brought to Capeside Animal Hospital in Leland for checkups and vaccinations. They will head to the Ruffian Sanctuary once they are cleared.

Ashley Coursen, who works at Animal Centrix, says they will come back to the area every Wednesday and Thursday until they can trap the other three or four cats.
