Students win big honors in national safe boating poster contest
BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Two Brunswick County elementary school students got big honors in a national competition promoting boat safety.
Jessie Mae Monroe Elementary student Kylee Blum won 1st place in the United States Power Squadron National Safe Boating Poster Contest. Kylee originally took home state honors her age category to move on to nation competition.
Peyton Withrow, who was 1st in the state contest his age category, placed 3rd in the nation over the weekend.
The theme this year was “All Boaters are Welcome to the Neighborhood”.
“We are extremely proud of both students and are proud this is the fourth consecutive year a Jessie Mae student has won this national award,” JMME Art Teacher Theresa Reiter said.
