Students, faculty observe Pender County teacher

Students and faculty at Pender High School observed a moment of silence Friday to honor long-time teacher Daisy Larkins.

Mrs. Larkins was killed in a car crash Thursday night on North College Road. Highway patrol said a construction company was transporting a large piece of equipment across the road when Larkins collided with the truck.

Friday, her classroom door was turned into a tribute to the beloved teacher. Mrs. Larkins touched the lives of countless students and co-workers.

Principal John Spainhour said, “Mrs. Larkins is one of those teachers that you appreciate having in your building. She’s strong, but kind, firm but consistant, students come back with stories about Mrs. Larkins making a difference.”

“She really inspired me to do better in school. She was a great woman. She always let me get away with a lot of stuff, but she loved me,” added former student Antonio Williams.

Classes were not held in Mrs. Larkins classroom today out of respect.

Funeral arrangements have not been set.
