Students at St. Mary’s learn about Fat Tuesday
Saint Mary Catholic School kids got out of class early today to celebrate Fat Tuesday.
They showed off decorative masks and shakers specially made for their parade. Energetic kindergartners, up to eighth graders, marched the block around Saint Mary Church dressed in beads and hats.
As the school band performed, teachers threw beads and coins from a balcony behind the church.
“I got to catch beads and coins, but I didn’t catch any coins,” commented second grader Rebecca Jackson.
The parade was not only entertaining for the kids, it was educational too… they learned all about the significance of Fat Tuesday. “Trying to catch some coins and necklaces, but I haven’t caughten a lot,” said Charlie Wheelock.
