Summer reading festival highlights library programs

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — No rain could put a damper on all the fun festivities happening at the New Hanover County main library branch in downtown Wilmington.

Saturday was the 4th Annual Summer Reading Kickoff and Festival at the Main Library Story Park.

The event included performances by Cape Fear Circus Arts and the 208th Army Band.

Children’s Library Associate at Northeast Library Shannon Vaughn said the library offers fun, but educational options for kids to do during the summer.

“Teachers do a great job of encouraging kids to read in the summer but we want to augment that with letting them know that we got great free programs and that they can come to the library all summer 7 days a week,” Vaughn said.

Each branch of the New Hanover County Public Library has a varieties of programs set to happen over the next few months including a Harry Potter event.

Summer reading goes until August 19th. For more information, click here.
