Sunset Beach cop under investigation after court case thrown out

SUNSET BEACH, NC (WWAY) — A Sunset Beach Police officer is under investigation after prosecutors had to dismiss a court case in which he was a witness, WWAY has learned from sources.

The sources say the issue stems from notes the unidentified officer used during the appeal of a DWI case in Brunswick County Superior Court. They say the officer’s notes and testimony differed from what he provided during a trial in district court.

When asked about the incident Friday afternoon, District Attorney Jon David told WWAY he did not have direct knowledge of what happened in court, except that the case had to be dismissed.

When reached by phone Friday evening, Sunset Beach Police Chief Lisa Massey said she was playing softball and a reporter could call her Monday for comment.
