Sunset Park residents meet to talk about wood pellet domes
NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Members of the Historic Sunset Park Neighborhood Association met Thursday night with State Port management and officials from Enviva.
The port and Enviva are building a facility that will export wood pellets that will be stored in domes before being shipped out.
Residents said they are worried about the shear enormity of the domes and proximity to their neighborhood.
“We’re looking for a compromise really,” said Johnnie Henagan, the President of the Sunset Park Neighborhood. “We’re looking for the domes to be moved or placed on the port that is not so close and so imposing or threatening to our neighborhood and the quality of life of our neighborhood.”
Enviva and the port have not made any decisions on the issue, and that this was just a public comment meeting.
