Superfans cheer on Packers and Steelers during Super Bowl XLV

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Terrible towels were waved and cheese heads were worn proudly as Packers and Steelers fans from all over the Cape Fear area sat down to watch the biggest NFL game of the year.

Whether you watched the game at home, or at a packed bar, the adrenaline was flowing for both Packers and Steelers fans. But, for two women, Super Bowl XLV meant cheering a little louder than the average fan.

Vonzenia Ross sat on the edge of her seat as she watched the game and cheered for the Packers with her family in Leland.

Her grandson, Jay Ross is a defensive lineman on the cheese head’s practice squad.

“We want to win,” says Ross. “I think that’s what is going through his mind. We want to win the game.”

Though the New Hanover High School graduate did not play in the big game, it didn’t stop Ross from cheering on his team.

A few miles down the road at the Break Time sports bar, Linda Kasyan cheered for the Steelers alongside fellow members of the Wilmington Steelers Fan Club.

Wrapped in a terrible towel the day she was born, Kasyan considers herself a die-hard superfan.

“I actually wore my Steelers shirt to church, which I never do, but for good luck today, I wore my shirt to church,” says Kasyan.

The game’s final score was 25, 31, Greenbay. Ross says she can’t wait for Jay to come on back home.

“I told Jay, I say ‘When you win that ring, you better bring it back and share it with all of us,'” says Ross.
