Sure sign of fall as symbol of spring arrives in Wilmington

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — It may be fall, but the Cape Fear Garden Club is already getting ready for spring and the Azalea Festival.

A truckload of azaleas was delivered to Airlie Gardens for 2016 Azalea Garden Tour homeowners to start sprucing up for next year’s tour. Encore Azalea and Southern Living Plant Collection donate ten plants to each garden owner.

Organizers say they’re excited to add some new stops to the tour.

“This year we’re also excited that we have our first garden at Pleasure Island,” Azalea Garden Tour Chair Kimberly Exum said. “And the gardens range from northern New Hanover County to southern New Hanover County.”

The Azalea Garden Tour is less than six months away, but gardens are already starting to take shape. Tours run April 8-10, 2016.
