Surf City event highlights National Fishing and Boating Week in North Carolina

SURF CITY, NC (WWAY) — Surf City will host a Kids Freshwater Fishing Day event next month as part of National Fishing and Boating Week celebrations across North Carolina.
The event is scheduled for June 13 and is one of several fishing and boating activities planned statewide through partnerships with the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission and local organizations.
National Fishing and Boating Week is held annually during the first week of June to encourage families and children to experience fishing, boating and outdoor recreation.
The Surf City event is designed to give children and families an opportunity to enjoy freshwater fishing while learning more about conservation and outdoor activities.
Other events planned across North Carolina include fishing derbies, youth fishing days and family fishing events in communities including Jacksonville, Kinston, Burnsville, New London and Fayetteville.
One of the largest events planned is the Fintastic Fishing Festival on June 13 at the John E. Pechmann Fishing Education Center in Fayetteville.
That event will feature fishing demonstrations, casting contests, kayaking, fly-fishing, boating simulators and catch-and-release fishing opportunities for children and families. Organizers say food trucks and hands-on exhibits will also be available.
