Surf City to hold public meeting for input on new skatepark design

SURF CITY, NC (WWAY) — The Town of Surf City will host a public meeting next week to discuss the design of the new skatepark that is being planned for the Earl G. and Inez Batts Recreational Complex.
The town received $1 million in grant funding to complete Phase I of the recreational complex, which includes the skatepark, 100% inclusive playground, sand volleyball courts, trails, 18-hole disc golf course, and restroom facility.
The Parks, Recreation, and Tourism Department says a team of stakeholders determined the components of the skatepark’s design and they are seeking the public’s input to help finalize the design.
The meeting is scheduled for Thursday, December 16, from 6-8 p.m. at the Surf City Welcome & Events Center, 102 N. Shore Dr., Surf City, NC, 28443. The meeting will follow an open house format. A brief presentation will be made at 6 p.m.
Town staff will be available to discuss the recreational project and to receive your feedback.
“By incorporating design elements from the community into the overall skatepark design, users of all ages and skill levels should be able to use and enjoy this new feature of the town’s recreation system,” Parks, Recreation and Tourism Director Chad Merritt said in a release.
