Surgical robot helping doctors at NHRMC
As technology continues to advance, the quality of health care improves.
At New Hanover Regional Medical Center, doctors are now getting some very high-tech help from a new surgical robot during complex surgeries.
New Hanover Regional Medical Center is the only hospital in our five county viewing area to have one of these million dollar new da Vinci Surgical System Robots.
Eight doctors are trained to use the robot, and in the two months since it’s been at NHRMC they’ve performed 15 prostate and gynecological surgeries.
The surgeons sit at the consol and use controls to maneuver four robotic arms. They view the surgery through a three dimensional magnified screen, which makes the surgery more precise.
New Hanover Regional plans on performing cardiac surgeries with the robot in the future.
