Surviving the attack on Pearl Harbor
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Today 73 years ago Our nation was Pulled into World War II by a surprise attack from the Japanese.
Sunday Afternoon, a group held their annual memorial service.
The Wilmington world war Two coalition held Their annual ceremony starting at 1:25 This afternoon, because with the time change, that is the same time Pearl Harbor was bombed more Than 70 years ago..
Dozens gathered at the Battlefield Park for a ceremony That included four survivors from The attack.
Three of them told The story of where they were the moment the Japanese arrived.
The ceremony included a wreath laying on The Pearl harbor memorial… And a 21 gun salute.
One survivor, 96-year-old Harold Garrish was a sailor in WWII. He says, it’s important for younger generations to remember what happened because history can repeaT itself.
“It’s good To Try To instill in people that we can be attacked if we aren’t alert and we weren’t alert in Those days,” Garrish said.
Garrish was 23-years-old at the time of The attack.
