Suspect killed in officer-involved shooting
BLADEN COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A suspect is dead after an officer-involved shooting in Bladen County.
The Bladen County Sheriff’s Office says deputies and an officer with the Bladenboro Police Department were involved in the shooting after a suspect pointed a gun at them after a confrontation in a wooded area.
Bladen County Sheriff James McVicker said law enforcement responded to a call around 7 p.m. about a man with a gun lying in a ditch on Highway 41 near Dublin.
Sheriff McVicker said at the scene officers were told the man was being transported out of the area and were given a description of a vehicle the man had left in. He then said officers pulled the vehicle over, and the suspect ran into the woods.
Sheriff McVicker said law enforcement entered the woods to find the suspect and shots were fired. He said the suspect was pronounced dead at the scene.
The SBI is investigating. We’re told no officers were hurt.
