Suspect charged in fatal Old Navy shooting in NC

GREENSBORO, N.C. — A 27-year-old man has been charged with murder in the killing of a security worker outside an Old Navy clothing store in central North Carolina.

Greensboro police said Isaam Mattaay Chaplin was being held without bond Tuesday in the Guilford County jail. Jail officials said he was in court for his first appearance Tuesday afternoon and had not yet retained an attorney.

On Dec. 15, 25-year-old Juan Esteban Salado was fatally shot as he left an Old Navy store in Greensboro. Police said Chaplin once worked at the store.

Greensboro police Capt. Janice Rogers said police at North Carolina A&T State University apprehended Chaplin after a confrontation Monday at the school. Rogers said Chaplin is not a
student and didn’t provide details of the confrontation.
