Suspects identified in bank robbery, chase that ended near WB

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Wilmington Police say they have three suspects in custody after a bank robbery downtown this morning.

Police say two men went into the Bank of America located at 319 N. 3rd Street just after 9:15 a.m. and demanded money from a teller. The suspects also showed a knife during the incident, but no injuries were reported.

Police say the suspects left the bank in a getaway car and led officers on a high speed chase down Martin Luther King Blvd. to Eastwood Rd. where they crashed near the draw bridge. The pursuit lasted about six minutes, police said. After the crash, police say two suspects tried to run away but were quickly caught.

WPD says the other people in the four other cars involved in the incident suffered bumps and bruises. Ten people including the suspects were involved in the crash.

The suspects, Jimmy Cox, Brenton Jenkins and Darrick Jones are all facing charges of robbery with a dangerous weapon, conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon and second degree kidnapping. Police say more charges could be pending.

Traffic was shut down from Canal St. to Airlie on Eastwood Rd. due to the incident, but has since opened.
