Suspended girder latest hurdle at new Oak Island bridge
WWAYTV3 learned new details Monday on last week’s deadly construction accident on the new Oak Island bridge.
A spokesperson for the Lee Construction Company tells us engineers are now determining how to get a suspended girder safely down to ground.
Officials are trying to determine just what happened which caused another girder to fall, killing one construction worker and hurting two others. The accident occurred at the site of the new bridge connecting Oak Island with Highway 211.
Meanwhile, a spokesperson says the funeral for Jose Montalvo, a father of three who was killed in that incident, will take place in his hometown of Sumter, South Carolina on Thursday.
