Man charged with stealing missing Raleigh man’s SUV
RALEIGH, NC (WSOC) — Police have charged a man with stealing the SUV of a 39-year-old who disappeared Saturday while trying to sell the vehicle.
William Anderson Banks, Jr., known as “Andy” to his friends, was last seen around Woodburn Road close to Cameron Village.
Friends say that Banks buys and sells cars on the side and was in the area to meet a buyer.
The 2011 Silver Range Rover Sport Banks was trying to sell was found in Danville, Virginia on Monday.
On Tuesday, detectives charged 34-year-old Justin Fernando Merritt with robbery, larceny of motor vehicle and possession of a firearm by convicted felon in connection with the stolen vehicle. He was taken into custody in Danville.
Raleigh police said the investigation and search for Banks continues.
Flyers were seen in the area of his disappearance on Monday, encouraging people to contact police if they see him.
Friends told Channel 9 that Banks grew up in Gaston County. He graduated from Ashbrook High School before going to college at N.C. State.
