Swimmer rescued at Fort Fisher Sunday morning


FORT FISHER, NC (WWAY) — Multiple crews rescued a swimmer Sunday morning after he was caught in a rip current off Fort Fisher.

According to New Hanover County Communications, crews were sent to the area of the Fort Fisher State Recreation Area around 9:40 a.m.

The Kure Beach Fire Department said they, along with Fort Fisher Rangers and lifeguards, safely rescued a male who was in his mid 40s. He was swimming about 150 yards off the beach.

The fire department said the man was semi-conscious when they pulled him from the water and paramedics were on scene to assist him, but they did not know if he was taken to the hospital.
