Symphony Day introduces kids to music at an early age
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — It is usually a very quiet place, but the New Hanover County Library in Wilmington was making a lot of noise this weekend.
Members of the North Carolina Symphony stopped by to read and play music for a much younger and rowdier audience in honor of Symphony Day. Organizers say this contrasting combo between books and music actually goes hand-in-hand.
“Singing is one of the five practices of early literacy skills,” said Librarian Susan Demarco. “Exposing children to music early on helps prepare them to be readers later in life.”
If you missed out on the symphony this weekend, don’t worry. You can find a full calendar of concerts across the state on their website, http://www.ncsymphony.org/.
