Taking a look back at Hurricane Matthew, one year later


WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — One year ago Monday, Category 4 Hurricane Matthew was moving northwestward through the Caribbean Sea, taking aim at Jamaica, Haiti, and Cuba before eventually impacting the Cape Fear on October 8th.

This week, we’ll take a look back at the days leading up to the devastating storm.

From Governor Pat McCrory’s State of Emergency declaration on the 3rd, to the preparations by our local communites, and finally, the rain, winds, and surge the storm brought on the 8th.

Join us on WWAY as we examine just how well southeastern North Carolina readied for Matthew, one of our most destructive storms to date.
