Taking a plunge for a good cause
KURE BEACH, NC (WWAY) — It might be cold outside but for hundreds of people the temperatures were not too cold to support a good cause.
Saturday, the Special Olympics New Hanover County hosted its annual polar plunge in Kure Beach along with a 5k and 1 mile walk.
Many plunged into the cold Atlantic Ocean wearing their wackiest costumes.
For Kara Thomas, she decided to dress up as a white horse and says she loves participating in this event.
“This is an amazing event and I’m so glad I do this every year. It’s a lot of fun and it gets a lot of people who wouldn’t normally be involved with the Special Olympics involved in the event, so it’s great,” said Thomas.
All proceeds benefit the Special Olympics New Hanover County which supports more than 500 athletes with intellectual disabilities in year-round training programs.
