Taking care of your car after the snow

This week’s snow was a pretty snow, but thanks to road crews we have salt covered roads. That’s great to help you get around, but bad for the undercoating of your car.

“Salt is very corrosive and the longer you set it on there, and the complete undercarriage of your car is made of metal, and the longer it stays on there it starts to rust and deteriorate,” said Brandon Blizzard, Cruisers Car Wash manager.

Cruisers Car Wash on Oleander Drive was busier than normal on Wednesday. Most of their customers came in for the same reason, salt buildup on and under the car.

“Actually, I got some on there on Monday coming down I-40, because they were spraying the roads. It’s been on there a couple of days. It’s time to get that off,” said Carolina Beach’s Elizabeth Clay.

Something else to consider, because we live along the coast, your car may be under a slow salt attack. The overspray and salt in the air near the beach can cause rust and corrosion.
