Tax day sparks Tea Party protest

Sounds of protest could be heard on Water Street in downtown Wilmington Thursday evening, as Tea Party activists turned out to let their voices be heard.

Area voters, holding signs and flags, lined both sides of Water Street in front of the federal court house. People of all ages came out for the rally, which coincides with national tax day. Many of the people say they’re concerned about big government raising taxes, and what they say is overspending on the part of our current administration.

“The problem is spending is just totally out of control. There’s just no end to what they’re spending. We’re going to end up like Greece if we’re not careful,” Ed Johnson of Lake Waccamaw said.

People who attended the protest said the event wasn’t affiliated with any particular political party. Tea Party protests, like this one, were held across the country on Tax Day.
