Teacher charged with threatening neighbor back at work

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A teacher charged with threatening her neighbor is back at work after a brief suspension.

A New Hanover County Schools spokeswoman says Wanda Leggett returned to work today. Leggett was suspended with pay from her job as a special education teacher at Ashley High School Monday after she was booked in Brunswick County on charges of communicating threats and simple assault.

A warrant sworn out by Lana Allen of Leland claims Leggett threatened her by telling Allen says was going to “beat her black ass” and assaulted her by thrusting a weed eater at Allen. She was booked on the charge Saturday and then released.

Leggett is due back in court Sept. 19.
