‘Teacher of the Month’ recognized for creating a classroom where every child feels safe and ready to learn.
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Brianne Hastings, a second-grade teacher at Town creek Elementary School, has been named WWAY’s Teacher of the Month for November, recognizing her for creating a classroom where every child feels safe and ready to learn.
One parent’s submission says Ms. Hastings is creative, kind, and tuned in to her students’ needs—creating a classroom where every child feels safe and ready to learn. She says there is a science to it.
“We talk a lot about how brains and bodies work differently and learning to embrace those differences and understanding them,” Hastings said.
Hastings says she knew she would be an educator as a kid. ” I taught my stuffed animals. My mom definitely heard me teaching my brother suffer through my teaching,” she said.
Hastings says it’s the little things that make the biggest impact.
The Teacher of the Month award, sponsored by Masonboro Kids Dentistry, April Jones Insurance, and The Golf Barn, comes with a $600 prize. The program allows community members to nominate educators who go above and beyond for their students.
