Teacher of the Week: Brian King

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Brian King is a very popular teacher at Holly Shelter Middle School.  So popular in fact that all 90 of his students helped him celebrate winning Teacher of the Week.

“I feel like all these kids are mine” he says, “I will fight for my kids and they know this.”

Mr. King says he found his home when he became a sixth grade teacher and he loves teaching math.  His students, however, don’t always share that love.

“My goal is to have these kids hate math less when they leave my classroom,” he says.  He adds, “Ultimately I just want them to leave my classroom a better human being.”

To keep learning on track, his classes are fun and students are held accountable for their own growth.  They celebrate success in his classroom every day.

In the end, Mr. King explains “I may have them only for a year, but I take them under my wing and treat them as my own.”
