Teacher of the Week: Scott Anderson
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — This educator may not teach in a conventional classroom, but he’s sharing lifelong lessons on how to stay healthy with his high schoolers. This gym teacher with gusto is our Teacher of the Week.
“I think it’s great,” said Scott Anderson, a teacher at the Career Readiness Academy at Mosley Performance Learning Center in Wilmington on being named Teacher of the Week and winning $300 for his classroom. “We can always use money trying to get a lot of things going on here. I’m a new teacher here at this school and I want to institute fitness and different programs for these kids to be successful.
“We’re just trying to give kids motivation to be as active as possible. There’s so many other things pulling on kids at school that activities sometimes falls by the wayside. And I’m trying to create some opportunities for them to be successful and increase their activity throughout the school day.”
When his students leave his class at the end of the year, Anderson wants them to take something with them.
“I want them to be able to continue on with lifelong physical activity,” he said. “So many people play sports and stuff when they’re in school but once they graduate from school that stops. And other activities like running and swimming and biking and just instituting that healthy lifestyle is like the one thing that I want them to take away from my classes and teaching them.”
