Team of the Week – Trask Titans

ROCKY POINT, NC (WWAY) — “In my opinion we play in the toughest conference in the state,” Trask head coach Jonathan Taylor knows Titans have their hands full in the Four County Conference. “Think about last year, you had two teams competing for a state title, and of them won, and that’s huge.”

Trask entered Friday’s game against arch-rival Pender winless in league play, but both teams knew a victory would mean a bid to the state playoffs to whichever team won. “It takes an offense, a defense and a special teams. Throughout the night all three did well. In the first half the defense had the offense’s back. We were moving the ball, we kept dropping the ball, but the defense kept bowing their necks and getting stops.”

Trask gave up an early touchdown, but thanks to a strong performance in all three phases of the game, they were able to come from behind to beat Pender 21-6.

“All week long coach was saying this is a playoff game. Once they went up 6-0 we got a little nervous, but everybody kicked in to play hard and we’re now going to the playoffs.” In just two more nights Trask will open the state playoffs on the road against Tarboro. For the Titans it’s just one more trip, a little different road trip than the one they had this summer.

“Over the summer we went to an FCA camp and that definitely brought the team closer together. Then every Friday we go to a team meal provided by a community church that helps us. We pray together and the team meal motivates us.

How’s this for motivation? Trask High School is this week’s WWAY-Logo Shoppe Team of the Week and they’re sporting brand new t-shirts from the Logo Shoppe !!
