Teen talks about ‘trip of a lifetime’
SOUTHPORT, NC (WWAY) — A Brunswick County teen is getting the trip of a lifetime, after his life took a turn just over a year ago.
Jevanie Green has been recovering after being hit by a drunk driver on the 4th of July last year. Three Brunswick County School staff members helped raise money to cover the trip to Florida to swim with Island Dolphin Care in Key Largo, Florida. According to their website, “Island Dolphin Care, a not-for-profit organization is a magical place where dolphin therapy brings children with special needs, children at risk, wounded veterans and their families joy and the discovery of new abilities.”
They hope the trip will allow Jevanie to get more self confidence and eventually achieve his goal of joining the South Brunswick track team.
“I’m not going to settle like this. I’ve got to help myself for God to help me,” Jevanie said.
Jevanie said he’s thankful for the constant support from his family and community. His dad Wayne Green says his son is an inspiration.
“If he can be that positive in his condition and situation, you know, I can do as much,” Green said. “As a parent I have to follow his lead so to speak.”
