Teen’s body found in Shallotte River

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A teen’s body was found this afternoon in the Shallote River. The Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office says around 2 p.m., a helicopter spotted a body floating in the Shallotte River.

Now investigators are trying to figure out what happened, and who this teen was.

Brunswick County Sheriff’s spokeswoman Emily Flax says the body is a 17-year-old male. She says the investigation near the Shell Point Community is ongoing.

The victim’s name is not being released until the next of kin has been notified.
