Temporary lane closures scheduled on Castle Hayne Road starting Monday

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Drivers traveling on Castle Hayne Road should expect temporary lane shifts beginning Monday, June 22, as crews begin work on a major water infrastructure project.
A contractor for the Cape Fear Public Utility Authority (CFPUA) will close a portion of the southbound lane in the 1200 to 1400 blocks of Castle Hayne Road between Preservation Point Road and the Smith Creek bridge starting at 7 a.m. Monday.
Flaggers will be stationed in the area to direct traffic through the construction zone. Work will take place Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., with the lane reopening to traffic outside of working hours.
Officials say the temporary closures are expected to last approximately five weeks. Business driveways within the work zone will remain accessible throughout the project.
The traffic shift was originally planned for later in the summer but has been moved up due to an expedited construction schedule.
The work is part of an ongoing CFPUA project that began in May to install a 20-inch water main extending from Cornelius Harnett Drive roughly 10,000 feet northeast to an area between Spring Road and Bermuda Drive.
Most of the pipeline will be installed outside the roadway using open-cut and directional drilling methods. Drivers are urged to use caution, remain alert in the work zone, and be mindful of crews working near traffic areas.
